What is the matter with my rice?

Its not producing any. Carefully situated where the watertank overflows in heavy rain, it has grown nicely all summer. Surely it should have produced a few heads by now. Has anyone got any ideas?

  1. What kind of rice is it? Some varieties are daylight sensitive. There are also those meant for patties and others bred for dryland. Where did you get the seed?

  2. Frank in Belgium tried rice last year, and here's what he wrote about that:

Since (I think) it's unusual for rice not to be daylight sensitive and/or a dryland type, and I can't find anything on the Internet about Koshihikari being either of these, I would suspect these as the issues.

I was also thinking about trying rice this past year, but never got beyond the researching stage...

  3. If you're looking for more rice varieties to try, Frank told me about this place:

They don't supply gardeners, but if you are a breeder or do something similar, they will generally send seeds for free. They might also send samples to seed companies, I don't know.

They have one of the largest collections of rice in Asia.

Another large rice collection is maintained by Vandana Shiva at Navdanya:
